A hit (✓) means that letter is correct and in the right spot. A present (•) means it's in the word but the wrong spot. A blank means the letter isn't in the word at all.
If a letter appears twice in your guess but only once in the answer, only one of the two is marked hit or present — the other reads absent, even though the letter is in the word.
Easy gives you 8 guesses and an answer with no repeated letters. Medium gives 6 guesses and allows one repeated letter. Hard gives 5 guesses and allows any word.
